Uda-Matsuyama district 大宇陀松山地区

　
近鉄榛原駅から「大宇陀行き」バスで約15分の場所にある重要伝統的建造物群保存地区の大宇陀松山地区。かなり広い範囲に渡って古い町家が残るとてもステキな場所です。

ただ保存されているだけでなく、今でも伝統的くらしがたくさん生きています。

上の写真は森野旧薬園から吉野葛の製造ラインを見たところ。薬園はきちんと維持され、薬草の勉強ができます。葛もここで作り続けられています。

Uda-Matsuyama is a conservation district of traditional buildings.  There are a lot of old townhouses built more than 100 year ago.  These old buildings are not only well-preserved, but are also actively functioning.  Many businesses, which has been operating more than 100 years, are still thriving.

The above photo is the view of the Morino Kuzu Factory from the Monino herb garden.  The large doughnut shaped pool is for the purification of Kuzu.  It's used every winter to make kuzu powder.  The herb garden is also maintained very well.  People who visit there can study herbs. 

久保本家酒造に併設されている酒蔵カフェでは、明治時代のお座敷で日本庭園を見ながら地酒の利き酒や麹ドリンクなどが楽しめます。出されるお水はなんとお酒の仕込み用の水。とってもまろやかでおいしかった〜。

Kubo Sake Brewery  runs Sake Cellar Cafe in the Meiji-ear building attached to the cellar.  We can enjoy tasting various kinds of their Sake and other goodies such as Kouji-drink in this photo.  They serve us the water which is used to make their sake.  It was so mild and delicious!

小さな児童公園の脇にもこんな古民家が。

This small play-ground for children is surrounded by the beautiful old buildings.

松山城跡に上る山道はものすごく神秘的でした。でもキツくて途中でリタイア。

The trail to the ruin of Matsuyama castle was very beautiful but quite steep.
I gave us reaching the ruin halfway.

観光客用のトイレも古民家に設置されています。

This townhouse has bathrooms for tourists. It looks old but the interior is all nice & modern.

大宇陀へは近鉄榛原駅からバスがありますが、宇陀川沿いにず〜っと遊歩道が整備されていて、道中はとてもすてきな景色です。歩くのがお好きな方や自転車の方にはぜひおすすめ！　榛原駅には電動レンタサイクルも有ります。行きは徒歩→帰りはバスというのも楽しいかも。

Instead of using bus from Haibara station, you can walk or bike to Matsuyama district along the Uda river on a promenade surrounded by beautiful  scenery.  Rental electric bicycles are available at the Haibara station.

Utano Agri-Mart 菟田野アグリマート

宇陀市菟田野松井の生産物直売所「アグリマート」。
新鮮なお野菜、お米、果物などの他に、生花、手づくりパン、地元のはちみつ、お惣菜、etc. がいっぱい♪  特にお花は、とってもリーズナブルなお値段で超フレッシュなものが買えます。

地元の方向けの食料品店としての側面から、地元産でないものも少し販売されていますが、値札に産地が明記されているので区別はつけられます。

Utano Agri-Mart is a farmers market which sells fresh local produce including flowers, and other delicious foods from the local  deli, bakery, etc.　Their flowers are especially reasonably priced.

レンタサイクル（電動アシスト）のターミナルにもなっていて、観光トイレもあります。向かえにあるローソンの駐車場も使用可。

They rent electric bikes and have the large & clean bathroom for tourists.  Customers can use the parking lot of Lawson across the street if their parking space were full.

2017年の年末年始は12月31日午前中まで営業。新年は1月6日から。　

Chestnuts 栗

台風の去った翌日、『栗の枝が折れてしもうたから、欲しかったらとりにおいで。』とご近所の方に声をかけていただき、大喜びで軍手、火ばさみ、袋をもって栗拾いに行ってきました。　とてもたくさんいただいたので、早速栗ごはんと甘露煮に。栗まんじゅうも作ってみました。

Right after the typhoon was gone in September, a neighbor lady called me and said 'Some branches of my chestnut tree with nuts were broken by the typhoon.  Do you want to come and pick them?'.
I rushed to her place with gloves, a tong, and a plastic bag.  It was so much fun to pick chestnuts.  I made chestnuts rice, stewed some in syrup, and made Kuri-manju (chestnuts buns).

採りたての栗を料理したのははじめてでしたが、あまりのおいしさに大感激！
長年木を大切にしてこられた方々のまごころが詰まったようなお味でした。

It was my first time cooking fresh chestnuts picked right off the tree.
They tasted amazing!
The tender loving care toward the tree by the lady's family must have made them so delicious.

Uda beef 宇陀牛

宇陀市はおいしい宇陀牛で有名ですが、先日榛原福西のあたりを歩いていたらこんな光景に出会えました。



菟田野には宇陀牛の専門店もあります。近鉄榛原駅前には「榛原牛」のお店も。
この牛さんたちは「宇陀牛」？　それとも「榛原牛」？

Uda-city is famous for the delicious Uda-beef.
I stumbled across these two boys in Haibara-Fukunishi area.

There is a meat shop of Uda-beef in Utano, and another one for Haibara-beef in front of Kintetus Haibara station.
Are these boys going to be Uda-beef, or Haibara-beef?
